Hello Rhema friends!
As an employee at Kedai Bukit Rhema, I thought I had seen all the beauty this place had to offer. Starting fromSunrise at Borobudurmagical to the mist that envelops “Chicken Church” in the morning. But today, August 17 2025, I had a completely different experience, an experience that made my love for Indonesia and this place overflow. Let me share the story from my point of view.
05.30 WIB: Solemn Ceremony in the Puncak Mahkota Courtyard
The bone-chilling cold air of Magelang did not dampen our spirits. Exactly at 05.30 WIB, when the eastern sky started to turn red, we were all lined up neatly at the top of Rhema Hill. Not only us employees, but also visitors who deliberately arrived early, even some foreign tourists with faces full of enthusiasm.
There was instant silence when the ceremony began. Everything went very wisely. What makes this moment even more special is seeing the diversity in one line. There are domestic tourists from various ethnicities, there are foreign tourists who may be seeing the flag ceremony for the first time, and we, the employees, are proud to be the hosts.
Our ceremonial supervisor today looked dashing wearing traditional clothes from Padang. In his speech, he not only talked about the sacrifices of heroes in the past. He reminded us that today’s “heroes” are all of us. “Every one of us who fights honestly for our family, who works hard to build a business, who keeps the environment clean, is a hero. The struggle is not over, only the terrain is different,” was his message which left a deep impression on our hearts. That speech rekindled our enthusiasm to continue fighting.
After the ceremony, the solemn tension immediately broke! Dangdut music suddenly started playing and without any command, all of us—employees, managers, even some visitors—jumped together and danced together. Very exciting! Moments like this show that at Bukit Rhema, we are all one family.
Laughter and Enthusiasm in a Typical 17’s Competition
Of course, an independence celebration would not be complete without a competition! We transformed the park area into an exciting competition arena. And the participants? Anyone can join!
Here’s the fun I managed to capture:
- Cracker Eating Contest:Can you imagine how funny it would be to see foreign tourists struggling to conquer crackers tied to a string? We burst out laughing seeing their expressions!
- Moving Sticks with Chopsticks:This competition really tests patience. The participants, both young and old, focused on moving the stick from one point to another.
- Inserting Rolling Ball & Ball in Wall:This is a game of skill that invites lots of cheers from the audience.
- Unique Contest: Hole Plugging with a Hat:This is probably the most unique race! Participants must use a hat tied to their head to direct an object into the hole. It requires extraordinary concentration and balance.
Seeing everyone, regardless of country or background, laughing and cheering together is the true meaning of independence for me: togetherness in happiness.
