Stories of Batik Making Experiences at Kedai Bukit Rhema
So, yesterday a group of students who were on holiday in Magelang accidentally booked a batik making session at our shop. I really enjoyed seeing their energy. From start to finish,batik processguided very patiently by the Denmas Batik team. These are the stages.
Stage 1: Introduction and Selection of Motifs
Upon arrival, all participants were warmly welcomed. They weren’t immediately asked to draw, but were invited to get to know the tools first: canting, wax (batik wax), and cloth. The most exciting thing is that each participant can choose a motif that has been prepared. The motifs are distinctive, some are inspired by the reliefs of Borobudur Temple, there are also beautiful flora and fauna motifs.
Stage 2: Meditative Canting Process
This is the main part. After the cloth with the motif sketch was installed on the wicketan (wooden frame), the Denmas Batik team demonstrated how to take hot wax with a canting and scratch it following the pattern. At first it seemed stiff, but after a few minutes, all the participants, including me who joined in, started to enjoy the process. The sound of the canting rustling on the cloth and the distinctive smell of the night really makes you relax.
Stage 3: Coloring, The Most Magical Moment!
After all the patterns are covered overnight, it’s time for the coloring process! This is the most eagerly awaited moment. Seeing the fabric dipped in dye and the motif we created earlier begins to emerge with beautiful color contrasts feels… magical! You can see the look of amazement on everyone’s faces. This process is fully assisted by the team, so it is guaranteed to be safe and the results are guaranteed to be good.
